MANILA, Philippines — Finance Secretary Frederick Go was sworn in as a member of the Monetary Board of the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas, joining the policy-making body as the government’s Cabinet representative.
BSP Governor Eli Remolona Jr. administered Go’s oath on Thursday at the central bank’s headquarters in Manila.
Go succeeded former Finance Secretary Ralph Recto, who now serves as executive secretary.
The seven-member board sets monetary policy and oversees the regulation of the Philippines’ financial system. Other members include former BSP Governor Benjamin Diokno, Romeo Bernardo, Walter Wassmer, Rosalia De Leon and Jose Querubin.
Before assuming leadership of the finance department, Go served as special assistant to the president for investment and economic affairs, a role that put him at the center of the Marcos administration’s efforts to implement the country’s economic and investment policies.
